(niderl. Aert van der Neer) (1603/1604, Gorinchem – November 9, 1677, Amsterdam) – Dutch painter of the Golden Age (Eng.), the founder of the genre of the nightscape.
Youth artist held in his hometown in South Holland. Gorinchema prominent artist at the time were the brothers Joachim and Rafael Goverts Kamphёyzen. The latter became a teacher van der Neer, moreover, Art married his sister. Around 1632 the young family moved to Amsterdam, where they had six children: eglonil (1634-1703), Johannes (1637 / 1638-1665), Peter (b. 1640), Cornelia (b. 1642), Peter (b. 1648) and Alida (b. 1650). Not being able to feed a family of their craft, the painter became the owner of the tavern. As such, he is mentioned in documents of 1659 and 1662’s. However, December 12, 1662 came bankruptcy estate van der Neer described. Painting, they were appreciated very low – an average of five guilders for the painting. The remaining half decades the artist lived in poverty.

Favorite genre painter – a winter landscape and nocturne. The main attention is paid to creating a Dutchman and a winter night scenery. His works – examples of successful solutions to the lighting problem.

In museums and galleries in the world holds about 150 of his brush paintings, one of the finest collections in the Hermitage.
